Instructions for keeping your installed security programs up to date

| Program | Maintenance |
| Spyware Blaster Run at least once a month | Double click the 'Spyware Blaster' icon Click on 'Updates' in the lower left area Click on the 'Check for updates' button. If updates are available they will install. When completed click on 'Protection' then 'Enable all protection' Close program. If no updates are available close program and try a week later. |
| Spybot search & Destroy run at least once a month | Double click on 'Spybot - Search and destroy Latest version will automatically update then close. Restart it and confirm update by clicking 'Search for updates'. Older version just go straight to the 'Search for updates' button. any updates available will appear in the window. Tick the box on all of them. Install. click on the blue shield 'immunise' button. If a message saying ' *** please immunise' appears press the green cross 'immunise' button. press the search and destroy button. Press the 'Check for problems' button This check can take a few minutes. if it proves the machine clear of threats then close the program down. If it detects threats follow the varying instructions to delete all threats. |
AVG Anti Virus | AVG will update fully automatically however occasionally their servers have a problem and wont allow the update. If an update error is reported simply leave it alone for a day or so and it usually resolves itself. You can force an update by Double click the square icon in the lower right of your desktop click 'Check for updates' button |
| Zone Alarm | No maintenance required although occasional updates are offered. Best to take the updates but be careful to ALWAYS get the free, basic version which is not always the one they want you to have but it IS always there. Do not try other products offered, you may be tied to a trial that will expire then need paying for. |
